Notes from the Pastor:
Heidi Ho, Neighbor.
Here we are in the middle of October, and, as usual, Christmas is beginning to be advertised before we’re done with Halloween. We’ve seen this trend for a while, right? I know, I know, MANY retailers make 75% of their annual income during the Christmas season, so it makes sense to push that envelope. I’ve been encouraged by some of the retailers who have resisted the pressure to open on Thanksgiving day. I can’t imagine rushing thru turkey & dressing & football & clean-up just to rush out and fight crowds on Thanksgiving Thursday. I’ll settle for fighting crowds at Freddie’s for sale socks the next morning!
Let’s not rush into Christmas before we go to the Men’s Retreat, Oct 26-18. This is your last Sunday to sign up for some good interaction (spiritual leadership), R&R time (maybe fishing, disc golf or naps), and great food (BBQ Ribs Saturday night!!). See Steve Combs or Bill Hughes.
And speaking of Steve Combs, it’s Gospel Sunday! (Steve leads this toe-tapping worship).
Before I get to more on Sunday, I have to remind you about our Team Mexico report tonight, Friday, at 6pm at the church. We get to see all that happened in the Baja this past August AND enjoy a Taco Bar!!
Back to Sunday: in addition to Gospel music, we’ll pick up again with the series, ‘The Greatest of These…’ Love is the topic from 1 Corinthians 13. This Sunday we’ll look at how love is not self-centered. Simple, but profound. I fight the impulse to be self-centered all the time, sometimes unsuccessfully. :-/
Have a great weekend. See you Sunday?
