Union Gospel Mission

Purpose Statement:

“Partnering with the Inland Northwest to reach the poor with the love and power of the Gospel so they may become God-dependent, contributing members of society.”

Rescue, Recovery and Restoration

The Union Gospel Mission (UGM) has been meeting the needs of the poor and homeless for over 60 years – providing more than 6.5 million meals and 1.5 million nights of shelter. What began as a downtown soup kitchen in 1951 has expanded into a comprehensive ministry encompassing Rescue, Recovery and Restoration with four shelters, a cost-free summer camp for underprivileged youth, and three enterprises (two thrift stores and an auto repair and sales business) which provide gainful employment, training and the development of work skills for our residents. In addition, a culinary school at the men’s shelter on Trent Avenue is producing certified chefs who are being hired in local hotels and restaurants.

Several members from Chattaroy Community Church are active at UGM, including 3 who are members of the UGM Board of Directors, and others who are volunteers in the various ministries.

Pray for:

  • Additional volunteer mentoring couples to shepherd residents who are returning to normal community life.
  • Local businesses willing to provide a short, unpaid work experience for residents with existing skills.
  • Staff and Board wisdom to react appropriately to the many known needs.
